FAQs

  • Sessions operate on a weekly basis as this is in-line with the evidence base. There is some flexibility around holidays, sickness and cancellations. These are set out in my terms and conditions before agreeing to work together.

  • Sessions are £115 per 50 minute session. At the moment I am unable to offer concession prices and I have chosen to not work with insurance providers.

  • You may find some therapists that offer lower cost sessions than me, so I think it is appropriate to address this question open and honestly. I provide a specialised service. This means I keep up to date on the latest research in social anxiety therapy. I regularly attend conferences and training. I receive specialist supervision which I pay for. I also believe that I cannot provide a good service when I am stretched thin. High quality social anxiety psychotherapy requires good preparation from the therapist to design appropriate evidence led sessions. This means I cannot see other people in that time. By charging a higher rate, I can maintain a smaller group of clients, which means I can provide the most personalised, highest level care I can give.

  • My lower age limit is 16. There is no upper age limit.

  • Before starting sessions, I will conduct a thorough assessment with you. If I believe that you might be best suited to other support, I will discuss this with you and create a plan with you to access this support. After assessment, even if we agree not to work together, I will make sure you are clear on where and what to access.

  • I do not offer bulk-buy sessions or offer session packs. My opinion is that therapy should be able to come to an end when therapeutically appropriate, rather than when a pack of sessions is up. I also want you to feel empowered to leave at any point you want, and not feel you have to attend because you have already purchased sessions.

  • I am trained to work with a range of difficulties, including: social anxiety, depression, anxiety, low self esteem, perfectionism, PTSD, phobias, OCD, health anxiety and panic disorder. In my NHS work I work with this broad range of issues.

CBT for Social Anxiety is quite different to other methods of CBT. We conduct specific interventions and experiments and I am lead by recent research from the University of Oxford.

If other difficulties come up, such as general anxiety, phobias, low self-esteem or low mood, I am able to work with you on these, as they can be closely tied to social anxiety.

However, if your primary problem is un-related, as I believe in specialised healthcare, I would recommend you contact a specialist in that form of CBT.

  • I work online only via Zoom. I have found this makes therapy easier to access and people appreciate being in a space they can switch off after sessions. I have also found it makes it easier for people to fit therapy within their busy lives. Research shows online therapy is just as effective as face-to-face, including for social anxiety. It also means we can work together and I can offer you specialist support regardless of location.

  • Yes! I am able to work with English speaking clients from all over the world, excluding the USA and Canada.

One important element to note is at the assessment, if we decide this is not the right support for you, I may have limited knowledge of your country's healthcare system and further support available.

  • If you are feeling suicidal and think you may take action to end your life or harm yourself, please go to A&E or call 999. You can also call 111 for urgent mental health support or call the Samaritans on 116 123 for emotional support.
